Library Learning Center
Bonfield Grade School
It is an awfully sad misconception that librarians simply check books in and out. The library is the heart of a school, and without a librarian, it is but an empty shell.

Library Visits
Each class at BGS visits the library twice each week. Book checkout is part of one visit and Library Literacy time with Mrs. Elliot, Teacher Librarian, is part of another visit.
Library Literacy Time
Mrs. Elliot reads aloud the annual list of Monarch books to K-1 students. Students will vote for their favorite Monarch title in early March.
Mrs. Elliot's read alouds include instruction in information literacy skills, making this enjoyable time of reading together educationally purposeful.
Materials Selection and Reconsideration Requests
Two books at a time
Students normally may have two books checked out at a time. (Kindergarten will have one book at a time during 1st semester.)
Students with overdue, damaged or lost books may NOT check out any materials until the book is returned or paid for.
Two weeks Circulation
Books are checked out to students for one week. They should be renewed to be kept longer.
Overdues
We do NOT charge fines for late books, but students may not check out anything until the overdue book is returned.
Lost books
Students are expected to pay for any items checked out to them which cannot be located and returned. Library staff always double checks in the library to eliminate the possibility of computer or library human error. Please communicate with Mrs. Elliot or Mrs. Ortman if you have concerns, but experience bears out.... lost books are usually found at home, somewhere...
Damaged books
Students are responsible for the care of books checked out to them. Accidents happen, but we insist our students are responsible for those accidents. If a book is returned damaged to the extent it will no longer be good for circulation, the student must pay for the book.
A note or contact when damage has occured is appreciated.
